GovernorsFormer Deputy Governors under the covering of the Forum of Deputy Governors of the APC, have called on the APC presidential candidate to consider core democratic ethos of whoever he will pick as a running mate.
Lucky Imauen, the Former Deputy Governor of Edo State who is also the National Chairman of FFDGN-APC, stated this in Abuja on Thursday during a media briefing.
Mr, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly facing a difficulty in deciding who his running mate should b for the 2023 presidential elections come February 25.
The battle is between choosing a Christian from the south or a Muslim as his running mate which will make the ticket a Muslim/Muslim ticket if he picks a Muslim.
We can recall that Mr. Felix Nicholas, while announcing his withdrawal from the race to declare his support for Yemi Osibanjo, had stated that Nigeria cannot afford a Muslim/Muslim ticket.
However, Mr Lucky Imasuen has acknowledged the complexities associated with picking a running mate, and knows it will not be an easy one.
“FDGN-APC, however, appealed to our presidential candidate, Tinubu and other leaders and stakeholders of the party to consider first, core-democratic ethos in arriving at a sensible decision of a running mate for the APC ticket,” he said.
Mr Imasuen also stated that there is no doubt that the emergence of Tinubu has sent fright to the camp of the enemies as they are dreading at the sight of his victory, also stating that they already have a premonition of defeat
.“No doubt, the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the flag-bearer of our party for the 2023 presidential election has sent jitters to the camp of the opposition party and they have realized the irreversible error committed to choosing a presidential candidate against the mood of the nation. With the emergence of Tinubu, even the major opposition party already has a premonition of defeat,” he stated.
However mr Imasuen was countered by other former deputy gov ernors, ncluding Femi Pedro, who srved as deputy governor under the Tinubu led administration in Lagos from 2003-2007.
He stated that Tinubu “is comfortably competent enough to manage the complexities of Nigeria without rancor and de-emphasize primordial sentiments on the basis of religion or tribe by putting Nigeria first.”
