Legendary Nigerian singer and actress, Onyeka Onwenu, has reportedly passed away at the age of 72.
According to sources, Onwenu collapsed during the birthday celebration of Mrs. Stella Okoli on Tuesday night and was subsequently taken to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, where she was pronounced dead.
An eyewitness at the event confirmed the news, stating, “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it.”
As of press time, Onwenu’s family has not yet released an official statement regarding her passing.
Onwenu will be fondly remembered for her iconic music albums such as “In The Morning Light” and “Dancing In The Sun,” as well as her notable roles in films like “Half of a Yellow Sun” and “Lionheart,” among others.
