The Ogun State Police have launched a manhunt for cultists responsible for killing councilor in the area. While We couldn’t find specific information on the councilor killings, Swage NEWS did find that 11 suspected cult members of the Aiye confraternity were recently arrested in connection with the alleged killing of three people in Ogun State. The police are taking proactive measures to address the rising cult-related violence in the region.
It’s unclear if these arrests are directly related to the councilor killings, but it’s a positive step towards curbing cult activities in Ogun State. The police are likely working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the councilor killings, and the community is probably cooperating to ensure justice is served.
Adeyinka Adeleke, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the councillorship seat of Ward 15 in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was tragically shot dead by suspected cultists on Saturday. The incident occurred in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta South, where the assailants arrived in a tinted car and shot Adeyinka at close range before smashing his head with stones to ensure he was dead.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack created palpable tension in the area, with residents scampering for safety . The police have confirmed the incident, and Adeyinka’s family has taken his body for burial ¹.
It’s worth noting that some sources suggest the killing may be related to cult rivalries, specifically between the Eiye and Buccaneer groups . However, the motive behind the attack is still unclear.
Adeyinka was not only a councillorship candidate but also a transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta . His death has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing sadness and outrage over the senseless killing.
