Obada Grammar School in Obada, Idi-Emi has been closed by the Ogun State Government due to the death of Monday Arijo, an SS2 student.
This came after the teacher who was allegedly responsible for the student’s death on Friday of last week due to corporal punishment was arrested and suspended.
The school’s principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, has also been suspended after she was previously questioned for permitting the student to be subjected to corporal punishment in violation of state laws.The statement stated, in part, that “Dapo Abiodun, the state governor, ordered the school to be closed and that a panel be established to look into the events that led to the regrettable incident.”
“The governor has pledged that those responsible for the investigation’s findings will be subject to the full force of the law.”
It was also reported that the late student’s family was visited by representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
In addition to gathering first-hand reports of the incident for a comprehensive investigation, the visit was intended to offer the Ministry’s condolences to the family and convey its sadness over their loss.The Ministry’s Secondary and Higher Education Department Director, the Principals General of the Egba and Yewa Divisions, the Zonal Education Officer, Imeko Afon, representatives of ANCOPPS, the Ogun State President, the Trade Union Congress, and the Ogun State Chairman of ASSUS are all part of the government delegation.
Speaking during the visit, the Director of Education, Secondary and Higher Education, and the Principals General, Egba and Yewa Divisions, offered their deepest sympathies while pledging the state government’s support to the family during this trying time.

Idi-Emi, the DPO, promised the family that justice would be done and that the circumstances surrounding the unpleasant incident would be thoroughly investigated. He gave them his word that their children would be safe at school.
The representative of the deceased family received a gift of N500,000 in cash along with a letter of condolence to express sympathy for their loss.
