The Nigerian military and the nation as a whole are in mourning as President Bola Tinubu announced the passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, who died in Lagos on the evening of Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
The Chief of Army Staff, who the country with excellence, succumbed to an undisclosed illness at the age of 56. His death represents a profound loss to the Nigerian Armed Forces, as noted by President Tinubu, who extended his condolences to Lagbaja’s family and recognized his lifelong dedication to the nation.
Born on February 28, 1968, Lieutenant General Lagbaja embarked on a remarkable military career spanning over three decades, characterized by resilience and a commitment to service. His career began in 1987 at the Nigerian Defence Academy, where he showed an early passion for military leadership and excellence.
In September 1992, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps, marking the beginning of his impactful service to Nigeria.
