The National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency has advocated the support of all and sundry to address and curb the increasing rate of drug abuse and traffic in Ogun State.
This came to fore at the sensitization programme held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.
The Ogun State Commander, National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency, Ishaku Yusuf Kwajafa, while highlighting factors promoting drug abuse among the youths and its effects in the society, charged parents and other stakeholders to effectively collaborate to address the growing menace.
He said the statistics has identified cannabis as the most commonly abused substance with an estimated population of 10.6 million Nigerians smoking it.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. General Buba Marwa (Rtd.) revealed that the agency has recorded seizure of illicit substances worth 90billion naira with the arrest of drug traffickers and barons.
With the theme, “Share Facts On Drugs. Save Lives”, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking aimed at sensitizing the public especially the youths on the dangers associated with cultivation, manufacture, trafficking and abuse of illicit drugs.
