Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, in a nine minute video, spoke on what made him decide to get involved in governance. In the video, he described the situation where he had an opportunity to have a talk with Professor Dean Jacob about the economy of Africa.
In the discussion, he got an opportunity to compare the Nigerian currency with the US Dollars. A clear comparison of the two currencies showed that he preferred the Dollars more than the Naira, because of the rate. The highest denomination as at 2001 was the One Hundred Naira note. However, Prof. Dean Jacob asked why he preferred the Dollars to Naira and in his (Obi’s) words: “I prefer the Dollars to Naira because of the rate.” Prof. Jacob went on to correct him that he (Obi) didn’t prefer Dollars to Naira because of the exchange rate, but because of faith. In Peter Obi’s words: “Economy is driven by faith and nothing else.” Thus, the reason he went into governance is to upscale the economy of Nigeria and make it better. Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State is a presidential candidate under the Labour Party.
