Former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who lead the IRIglobal/ NDI joint Pre Election Assessment Mission to Kenya has announced that after days of extensive consultations he is leaving the country in a ready state for their forthcoming election.
The visit was centered on Kenya’s preparedness and the call for peaceful campaigns to pervade the coountry ahead of the general elections scheduled for August 9,2022.
The former president made this known via his social media platform on Thursday.
IRI works to support democracy, political inclusion, multi-party political systems and a free exchange of ideas.
The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government.
GEJ said, “After days of extensive consultations with various stakeholders in Nairobi, as the team lead of the delegation for the pre-election assessment mission jointly organised by @IRIglobal and @NDI, I am leaving Kenya with the confidence that a calm and conducive atmosphere.
“In the course of the mission we met with an array of election stakeholders including the Independent Electoral & Boundary Commission (IEBC), political parties & candidates & civil society groups.
“We also met with the Office of the Registrar of political parties & the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, a department of government that control hate speech and other related offences with the aim of checking inter-ethnic tensions and promoting political stability.
“I wish the people of the Republic of Kenya free, fair and peaceful elections as well as a successful transition.”
