The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, on Tuesday, said it would not be subjected to blackmail by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.
This was stated by the National President of the union, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, during a media briefing with journalists in Abuja.
The union embarked on a strike on Monday, February 14, 2022 and has been unrelenting with regards to it’s decision.The strike entered its 155th day on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.
However, the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd), had on Tuesday, mandated the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu to proffer a solution to the lingering ASUU strike and give him a report in two weeks.
Speaking in Abuja, Osodeke said, “We will not be subjected to the blackmail of the minister of labour. Ngige has continued to blackmail us by churning out lies.
“They stopped our salaries thinking they will make us go back to work. Let them sit down as directed by the president.
