Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president, won the “Man of the Year” award at the 2022 Leadership Excellence Awards.
Obi received more votes than the other three nominees during a 14-day Leadership Excellence Awards voting period that was monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Igbere TV, a premier community TV in Nigeria, organized the online vote.
Obi won the online voting, which was place from August 1 to August 14, defeating the other three nominees.
He received 2, 428, 403 votes, beating out Abdul Rabiu, the chairman and founder of the BUA Group, who received 1, 124, 172 votes, and David Adeleke, better known as Davido, a well-known Nigerian singer, who received 881, 766 votes.
The founder and general overseer of Omega Power Ministries, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, who was the fourth nominee, had previously resigned and publicly supported Peter Obi for the honor.
The coveted prize, supported by the African Union, will be presented by the African Film Institute in November 2022 in Abuja.
According to NAN, the coveted award, which is given annually and is now in its fourth consecutive year, recognizes and honors outstanding contributions made by leaders in Nigeria’s public and commercial sectors.
The occasion honors notable figures and leaders whose contributions to Nigeria’s political, social, and economic realms have been felt.
Following his defection from the People’s Democratic Party in May 2022, Obi was nominated as the LP’s presidential candidate for the general elections of 2023.
Obi, a politician and businessman from Nigeria, presided over Anambra from March 2006 to November 2006, February 2007 to May 2007, and June 2007 to March 2014.
Obi was born in Onitsha in 1961, graduated from the University of Nigeria in 1984, and eventually worked his way up to many senior executive positions at banks.
Before quitting the job to enter politics, Obi was the Chairman of Fidelity Bank during the early 2000s.
