A video has surfaced on social media which features an officer of the Nigerian Police Force dishing out warnings to a Nigerian journalist on Friday in Lagos State.
The event occurred at an Lakowe area in Lagos and goes against the standard laws that govern journalism within the federation.
The officer whose name is not yet disclosed is seen warning a SwageNews journalist in the company of her colleague. The officer demanded to see a permission slip from the journalist which authorizes her to operate.
However, the journalist showed her ID and asks the officer if she cannot use her phone anymore at will. She is further seen resisting the warnings from the officer as she continuously affirms that she knows her right and limitations.

A Twitter user commented on the issue via his social media handle saying that the officer needs to be tamed, he said “@Princemoye1 The last I remember, we are not under military regime where journalistic roles are restricted by the police in public space. If this is one of your men, he needs to be tamed.
This happened in Lagos where he threatened the life of female journalists. In his tweet he tagged the Lagos State Police public Relations Officer, Prince Ademuyiwa Adejobi, who is yet to offer a response as at the time of filing this report.
Other Nigerians on the platform have openly condemned the act by the Police Officer, here are some of their expressed displeasure.”We assume that the police man should behave and reason in a way that is unknown to him.

He lacks an understanding of rights and limitations of public role””One of the points I raised during #ENDSARS is the unsuitability of handing AK-47s to policemen who are not on special ops like anti-armed robbery, anti-insurgency, e.t.c.; give them clubs or, at best, side arms. That AK-47 they wield makes them feel their Rambo.”
