The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has flagged off its presidential campaign in Uyo without the participation of five of its state governors.
Uyo’s Nest of Champions Stadium is the location of the party’s official flag-raising, which occurs less than four months before the 25 February presidential election.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and Ifeanyi Ugwunayi of Enugu State were among the five state governors who have been confirmed absent.
Recall that the five state governors recently withdrew from the party’s presidential campaign team after the party failed to meet their demand that National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu be removed.
At the campaign kickoff were PDP Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar, his running partner Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, and PDP National Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, as well as leading PDP heavyweights and loyalists, including members of the NWC.
It was said that they paid tribute to the traditional institution in the state of Akwa Ibom, which is led by His Eminence, Nteyin Solomon Etuk, the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium and Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs.
Ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, ex-Senate Presidents David Mark, Bukola Saraki, and Anyim Pius Anyim, and ex-PDP Chairmen Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo, Alh. Adamu Muazu, and Prince Uche Secondus were also present.
In addition to the NGF chairman, Alh. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, four of the six South-South governors have confirmed their presence.
