Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match between PSG and Benfica will have to happen without the world’s most famous number 10 at the moment as PSG’s Lionel Messi has been ruled out.
According to Le Parisien, the 35-year-old Argentine had a soleus contracture in the most recent Champions League match, during which he requested to be replaced.
Despite reassuring tests conducted by the club’s medical staff, the striker missed the weekend’s scoreless draw against Reims in order to receive treatment.
“Leo felt a problem in his calf during the first game with Benfica,” PSG coach Christophe Galtier was quoted to have said on Monday via The Mirror.
“We all thought he was going to be able to play in the second game, but it’s not quite there. There’s only six days between the two.

“He’s a lot better, but he still has that feeling that could be problematic in a game of this importance, and he preferred to sit it out.”
Messi will not only miss the return match against Benfica, but he may also be unable to play in this weekend’s Le Classique match against Marseille.
