THE first batch of beneficiaries of the Jubilee Fellows Programme (JFP), an initiative of the Federal Government have been allocated their one-year funded jobs.
Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, in his keynote address today during the onboarding event of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, for the first set of beneficiaries noted that the programme is a major part of President Buhari’s administration to fight unemployment amongst the youths and graduates in Nigeria.
VP Osinbajo also added that the Federal Government is committed to empowering young Nigerians with skills that can be used in solving national even global issues.
The Vice President who described the first batch as a “powerful and energetic gathering of potential entrepreneurs, business leaders, public sector leaders, and the movers and shakers of business and industry today and in the future,” intimated them on team work, dedication and competence in their different skills.
Addressing the first batch of beneficiaries, VP Osinbajo said: “You are young and educated at the most advanced moment in human history. This is the most advantageous moment for any young person and many of you are proving this.
“Since 2015, we have seen 6 tech and innovation companies who are now described as Unicorns, that is a company valued at over one billion dollars, established by young men and women under 30, many of them trained in Nigerian universities.
“But you don’t have to be the entrepreneur to be a success. You can be the great software engineer, the administrator, or the manager of men and resources. Every day presents that great opportunity, seize this moment and achieve your best dreams.”
Prof Osinbajo also spoke on how the NJFP came to existence and its vision of solving the basic economic needs and challenges.
In his words: “It must be a collaboration between government, private sector, and civil society, development partners or what is called third sector. It must be individuals in these sectors, coming together to talk informally and then developing big game changing ideas.”
The Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme was launched by President Muhammadu Buhari on August 31st, 2021 in partnership with the European Union (EU), Federal Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and others to help Nigerian youths and young graduates acquire local opportunities that will prepare them for world-class skills and knowledge.
The Programme is billed to ensure that 20,000 Nigerian graduates are given an internship that covers a 12-month paid job at top companies and firms in the public sector.
