Netflix is set to release a live-action series adaptation of the popular manga “One Piece” in 2023. The first season of the series will adopt the East Blue arc, with the journey of the lead character Monkey D. Luffy being portrayed by Iñaki Godoy. The series is produced by Tomorrow Studios, who were also behind Netflix’s canceled “Cowboy Bebop” adaptation. Filming for season 1 has officially wrapped and the live-action series is expected to stream on Netflix sometime this year.
This big announcement of the upcoming series was disclosed on Netflix’s official Twitter page on Monday, 30th January.

As seen in the tweet, the main character of “One Piece”, Monkey D. Luffy, is seen facing the sun, with a raised hand, with his back turned against the camera.
Members of the cast for the upcoming series are Emily Rudd featuring as Nami, Jacob Gibson featuring as Usopp, Vincent Regan featuring as Garp, Mackenyu Arata featuring as Roronoa Zoro, Morgan Davies featuring as Koby, Taz Skylar featuring as Vinsmoke Sanji, and Peter Gadiot featuring as Shanks.
Although Netflix has not officially announced a release date for the upcoming series, it would be recalled that the first announcement for the live-action series had been done in January 2020.
Modeled and woven around Luffy, who is the protagonist of the One Piece manga series, the fictional character is seen embarking on a journey to discover a hidden mythical treasure which is known as One Piece.
Luffy’s aim is to become the King of the Pirates upon getting the treasure.
While viewers wait with keen anticipation to see this exciting pirate manga, it shouldn’t be forgotten that One Piece by Netflix is one of the most-watched manga series, having sold a total of over 500 million copies.
