“The incident happened last night (Wednesday),” according to one of the sources. Two bystanders were struck by gunfire during the gunfight between security personnel that we just witnessed.
As everyone scrambled to safety, nobody knew what had caused the disaster. Even when gunshots struck the fuel tank, a car burned down.
The story was also supported by several videos that went viral online and had people explaining what happened. When asked about the development on Thursday, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, verified the incidence.
According to Ubah Ikenga, the gunfight started when the local security forces mistakenly believed that the police officers were “unfriendly forces” and started shooting at them” He stated.
The command is aware of the shooting incident that occurred at Izuchukwu junction, Nnobi/Nnewi road by 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, where security personnel opened fire on them after mistaking the police officers for hostile forces.
“The command would like to emphasize, however, that the operatives were not attacked by non-state actors or an attempt was made to interfere with the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s funeral.
According to preliminary information, the gunfight started after a suspect was followed to a security checkpoint by investigating security personnel.
Unfortunately, the Toyota Venza Sedan carrying the men was destroyed when bullets struck its gasoline tank.

The order requests a pause so that the occurrence can be investigated.” Joint Security Forces have been deployed to ensure Nnewi is calm throughout the burial ceremonies of the late senator,” he said, warning the people of Nnewi not to panic.
