The APC Chairman Adamu has announced Ahmed Lawan as the consensus candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
Adamu, the Chairman of the party announced the adoption of Senate president Ahmed Lawal as the consensus candidate of the party in a meeting with the National Working Committee, NWC on Monday in Abuja.
This decision was made against the position of the 11 northern governors who had earlier met and agreed that power should be shifted to the south, hence, are expecting the emergence of a southern candidate to succeed President Muhamadu Buhari.
However, the NWC have strongly kicked against the adoption of Ahmed Lawal as the consensus candidate.
They are insisting that the party must give aspirants such as the current Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Tinubu, Dr Kayode Fayemi among many others a level playing field to contest at the primaries at the party convention tomorrow at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
Also the 11 northern governors who had reached a consensus that power should be shifted to the south are strongly not in support of the adoption of Lawal.
Reacting to the uproars, the party chairman said that he arrived at the choice after consultation with President Muhammadu Buhari.
