Arsenal title hopes remain alive, says Arteta, addressing doubts over their consistency and potential for Premier League victory.
Amid doubts and criticism from notable figures like Thierry Henry, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta firmly believes the club remains in contention for the Premier League title. Arteta emphasized that Arsenal is still in the race for the English Championship “everybody is still in it, especially where we are in the season.” He suggests that even the most consistent teams, like Manchester City, face challenges and that Arsenal’s current struggles are manageable and part of the season’s unpredictable nature.
The league’s highly competitive structure has impacted all clubs, with Arteta making it clear that, “Everybody is struggling, even if they’re winning. That’s the thing, sometimes the margins were bigger in games. They’re not at the moment. I’ve not seen a team being that superior to other teams, but at the end the fact is you have to win and find ways and details to keep the right to win games.”
Arteta remains skeptical that any team will achieve the 100-point milestone this year, citing the intense competition as a formidable obstacle. “I would put my fingers here and say I don’t think anybody is going to do 100 points this year,” he said, adding that achieving such a feat would “require perfection to keep winning.” This bold prediction, in Arteta’s view, speaks to the quality of the Premier League and the difficulties of maintaining dominance amidst stiff opposition and relentless schedules.
Arteta’s confidence isn’t without reason; he points to Arsenal’s strong start and close proximity to league frontrunners as indicators of their competitive form. He’s quick to acknowledge, however, the heightened unpredictability of the league this season, remarking, “anyone can lose two, three, or four matches in a row.”
In a highly competitive League such as the Premier League, Arteta has urged his team to be prepared for the challenges that will be coming as the long season continue to progress. Arsenal, he claimed, is still well-positioned to fight for the title despite the intense pressure from fixtures across domestic and European competitions.
