THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has disclosed that its branches will commence a traditional voting today and tomorrow in a bid to ascertain whether to suspend the seven months ASUU strike.
According to ASUU, the outcome of the voting by the different branches will be communicated to the National Executive Council of ASUU for a final decision.
According to PUNCH, a verified source from the NEC in a chat with their correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday said that: “We got the directive after the meeting with the speaker yesterday(Monday). The intervention was timely. Branches will vote between today and tomorrow after which the decisions will be convened to the NEC,”
This is coming after ASUU’s meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila who stood in between the federal government and the academic union.
It will be recalled that the lawyer of ASUU, Femi Falana, SAN, had earlier announced that the strike will he over in a matter of days.
ASUU has been on strike since February 14 due to lack of funds for the revitalization of universities and unpaid salaries.
