Canva is releasing a slew of new features, including an AI-powered tool suite and a new Brand Hub. The new features and tools were unveiled today at the Canva Create virtual event.
The company is releasing Assistant, which allows users to search for design elements and quickly access features. The tool can also suggest graphics and styles that complement your current design. The assistant gives users quick access to AI-powered design tools such as Magic Write, the platform’s AI-powered copywriting assistant that debuted in December.
Magic Write is now available in all Canva project types, including presentations, social media graphics, flyers, and more. Previously, Magic Write was only available in Canva Docs.
Magic Write can be used to create website copy or presentation summaries. For example, you could request that Magic Write generate a list of social media strategy ideas for a new product launch. When suggesting copy, the tool considers the type of project you’re working on. Canva also announced that Magic Write is now available in 18 languages, in addition to the expanded availability.
Canva has also introduced a new way to generate presentations automatically. You can request that the editor create a variety of presentations, each with an outline and content on each slide. In terms of design, the company’s new “Magic Design” tool allows users to upload an image and then choose a style to receive a curated selection of personalized templates that can be customized.
A new “Magic Edit” feature allows you to add or replace anything in an image. You can specify where you want to add something to Magic Edit. A new “Magic Eraser” feature allows you to brush over an area of an image to remove unwanted details.
Canva is also introducing “Beat Sync,” which automatically matches video footage to a soundtrack of your choosing, as well as a new “Translate” feature that automatically translates text in designs to over 100 languages.
Canva is introducing a set of new features that it claims users have requested, in addition to the new AI-powered tools.
To begin, the company is releasing “Draw,” which allows you to draw a simple shape, such as a circle, and then have it transformed into a polished circle. A new “Layouts” feature allows users to add content to a page and receive recommendations for design layout ideas, whereas “Styles” allows users to browse suggested color palettes and fonts.
A new “Layers” tool can be used to view all elements in one place, including text, shapes, images, and video.
Canva now supports Alt Text, which allows you to provide additional context to your images and elements in order to describe them for those with visual impairments or accessibility needs. Another new welcome update includes 953 new fonts such as Arial, Courier, Helvetica, and Times New Roman.
In addition, the company is introducing Brand Hub, a suite of new tools and features designed to help teams stay on brand. The hub now includes a new “Magic Replace” tool that enables users to quickly update brand assets, such as logos, across all of your designs on the platform.
Furthermore, the hub includes tools for creating brand templates, folders, and guidelines. Administrators can also approve workflows directly in Canva to ensure that designs are reviewed and approved before they are published.
“Ten years ago, we launched Canva driven by a vision to empower everyone to design anything, no matter their skills or experience,” said Canva co-founder and CEO Melanie Perkins in a statement. “Today, we’re thrilled to advance that vision by introducing a whole new range of features, focused on empowering brands to scale their creative outputs. As technology continues to advance, we are reimagining the design process by making it even easier to take what is in your head, get it onto a page, and out into the world, faster than ever before.”
Canva, which was founded in 2013, now has over 120 million monthly users, which is 35 million more than it had before the launch of its Visual Worksuite in September 2022. According to the company, its platform has generated more than 15 billion designs.
