On Wednesday, July 27, 2022, early in the morning, residents of the historic town of Ibese-Yewa in the Yewa North region of Ogun State in southwest Nigeria took to the streets to demonstrate against the government’s decision to name Prince Oluwaseyi Rotimi Mulero of the Olokojobi Ruling House as the town’s new oba.
The decision to approve was made during the State Executive Committee meeting that was held in the evening of Monday, July 25, 2022, according to a release that was electronically signed and distributed to the media on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 in Abeokuta by Mr. Kunle Somorin, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The confirmation of Prince Rotimi Mulero as an Aboro-elect for Ibese-Yewa by the Ogun State Government has caused unrest in the Yewa North area of Ogun State in southwest Nigeria for a number of hours.
Prince Azeez Adedimeji Idowu, an important son of the Olokojobi Ruling House of Ibese-Yewa, was the candidate presented to the Ibese King Makers and was universally accepted and supported by the people of the town, according to Prince Akeem Idowu, a prominent son of the Olokojobi Ruling House of Ibese-Yewa who also ran for the stool but withdrew from the contest.
When speaking with journalists around, the locals were clear about their preference for Prince Azeez Adedimeji Idowu, whom they claimed emerged as the genuine candidate from Olokojobi Ruling House.
According to the locals, Prince Azeez Adedimeji Idowu is a first-direct son (male) of the Olokojobi ruling house, which is sacred under the law governing obas and chieftaincy in the state of Ogun.
Remember that Prince Rotimi Oluwaseyi Mulero, who the Ogun State Government approved for the illustrious throne, revealed in a video interview that was made available to journalists that he comes from the 4th (Female) Generation of the Olokojobi family?
The first great-granddaughter of Olokojobi, Omiyale, gave birth to his grandmother, who in turn gave birth to Pa Isaac Mulero, of blessed memory, according to Prince Mulero.
Additionally, it was said that the late ruler of the town, Oba Joel Bamgbose, was a member of the Alangbo Ruling House, which required that he put up a genuine prince from Olokojobi, the second-ranking house in the town, on the empty stool.
The town’s youth bemoaned the state government’s decision to choose someone the Olokojobi and residents of the town disapproved of in spite of several complaint letters sent to Governor Dapo Abiodun and Mr. Talabi, the Ogun SSG.
The State Government, according to a stakeholder who requests anonymity, cannot afford to provide anything less than justice while the case is still ongoing in court.
