Chidimma Adetshina, the representative of Nigeria, placed first runner-up in the 73rd Miss Universe pageant, which took place in Mexico.
Nigeria and Denmark engaged in an exciting face-off in the closing seconds of the famous event held at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico, which was announced early Sunday morning.
The two women were in a position to win the title.The contest honored the skills, knowledge, and grace of women from all around the world and was hailed as one of the most exciting in recent memory.
The organizers wrote on Instagram, “The last two! Denmark and Nigeria, two amazing women, one moment that will never be forgotten.
The winner of the title was Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark, who succeeded Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua as Miss Universe 2023.
Adetshina, meanwhile, received widespread praise from both judges and spectators for her superb performance and poise.
A few months ago, there was controversy over Adetshina’s formal withdrawal from the Miss South Africa 2024 competition, in which she had progressed to the final round.
Concerns raised by certain South Africans who questioned her nationality prompted her to make the decision.
Adetshina nevertheless went on to represent Taraba State and take home the Miss Universe Nigeria title.
This accomplishment has been made by a Nigerian before.
Agbani Darego of Nigeria became the first Black African to win the prestigious Miss World title on November 16, 2001, at the age of 18.
Because of her popularity, “Agbani” came to be associated with slim beauty in Nigeria, where many women admired her looks.
Agbani’s victory, as the first Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria to win Miss World, was a huge moment for the continent and sent shockwaves through Nigeria.
