A gas explosion has wrecked havoc at a liquefied petroleum gas refilling shop in Kano, burning down shops and leaving 20 people injured.
The explosion which happened at about 8:30pm on Thursday evening in the busy area of Sheka quarters, Karshen Kwalta in Kano state after a gas cylinder exploded and caught fire instantly.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) the explosion burnt down shops and also burnt people.
According to NAN, some witnesses nearby heard the explosion before running down to the scene to confirm what the source of the loud sound was.
Malam Abubakar an eyewitness said that many were rushed for urgent medical attention, and that these people were rushed naked and burnt to the hospital.
For further clarity and update NAN spoke to the Kano state fire service public relations officer Mr Saminu Yusif who confirmed that the incident had affected a total number of 20 people who were currently at the hospital burnt and receiving medical attention. According to him they are all alive and under the care of medical personnels.
He also said that the fire was caused by a man who was frying and selling fish near the gas shop.
The explosion affected both those inside the shop and those outside the shop including businesses that are near the gas shop.
