THE traditional ruler of Obudi Agwa, Ignatius Asor has been murdered by some suspected members of the unruly Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Imo State.
This incident, according to a terse statement issued by Michael Abattam, the spokesman of police in the state is said to have occurred around thirty minutes past 12pm on Monday in Obudi Agwa of Oguta Local Government Area in Imo State.
Abattam in his statement noted that Asor only allowed the suspected members to come into the palace, because they were disguised as though they came to deliver an emergency report to the slain monarch.
The terror group is said to have arrived the palace with four cars and two motorcycles and a woman in the group.
Getting into the palace, the terror group is said to have killed two aides of the traditional ruler before going on to kill the monarch.
According to Abattam, “In the process of explaining the reason for their visit, they brought out guns, shot and killed the Eze and two of his aides, and hurriedly fled the palace.”
Abattam explained that the suspected IPOB members also killed a member of the vigilante operatives during their attack at the office of the community vigilante group.
Abattam also added that “The corpses have been removed and deposited in the mortuary, and the community fortified with enough police operatives.”
Meanwhile, a distress call had been put across to the police operatives of the community to the location of the incident. But, the police spokesman said that before the police operatives could make their way to the palace, the terror group had already ‘disappeared’ from the scene.
Ahmed Barde, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State has spoken in condemnation against the attack and has urged the villagers to be vigilant and stay calm, while assuring them that all those involved in the attack shall be brought to face the law.
In his words: Ahmed Barde said that the police operatives “will leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators are arrested.”
