In Gombe, NAFDAC destroys fake and expired goods valued at N10 billion. In the Northeast zone, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control destroyed counterfeit goods that were seized for N10 billion.
According to The reports , the agency in Gombe State publicly burned the commodities on Wednesday.
Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Kenneth Azikwe, the North East Zonal Director of NAFDAC, on behalf of Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of the agency, stated that the exercise showed the agency’s dedication to purging Nigerian markets of inferior, fabricated, and unwholesome products.NAFDAC “remains at the forefront of promoting and protecting public health through creative approaches, stringent guidelines, and global cooperation,” the spokesperson said.
NAFDAC’s regulatory and enforcement officers seized the destroyed products, which included food, drugs, and other regulated items, according to Adeyeye.She went on to say that these products could have hurt a great number of people in the area if they had been distributed.
In an effort to create a safer and healthier country, the Director-General urged Nigerians to maintain their vigilance and report any suspicious products to the organization.
NAFDAC’s state coordinator, Mr. James Agada, revealed that the organization was firmly opposing those who put profit ahead of public safety.
Agada pointed out that a crucial element of NAFDAC’s market control tactics to guarantee that only high-quality goods are sold to consumers is the destruction exercise.
Agada promised the people that the agency would intensify its efforts to fortify regulatory frameworks, adding, “We will enhance surveillance and bring violators to justice.”
