Instagram eliminates 60 positions and a layer of management within the company, Regarding the employment layoffs, a Meta representative declined to comment.
A fresh story from The Information claims that Instagram has eliminated a level of management by cutting 60 technical program manager positions. The affected workers have two months to apply for other positions inside the organization. If they are unable to find another position inside the organization after the two months, their employment will end.
A former employee of Instagram mentioned in a LinkedIn post that some technical program managers would be asked to “re-interview for PM roles,” or project management positions.

Regarding the employment layoffs, a Meta representative declined to comment. The representative for Meta pointed TechCrunch to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s blog post from March 2023 regarding the company’s “Year of Efficiency,” in which he stated that Meta would prioritize cutting costs and increasing profitability.
According to The Information, Instagram has also informed staff members of a product team restructure, deciding to establish three new areas of focus for the group responsible for assisting users in creating and disseminating content on the social media platform. Creation, Creators, and Friend Sharing are the three new areas of attention.
Instagram will now put more of an emphasis on promoting creators who are most likely to encourage teen interaction on the site as a result of the adjustments. It’s not shocking that Instagram wants its staff to concentrate on producers who can draw in adolescent audiences to the site, but the shift coincides with a lawsuit filed by more than 40 states against Meta, claiming that the company’s services are causing mental health issues among their younger users.
A generation of young Americans’ psychological and social reality has allegedly been “profoundly altered” by Meta over the past ten years, and the lawsuit claims that Meta is utilizing “powerful and unprecedented technologies to entice, engage, and ultimately ensnare youth and teens.”

In addition to X (previously Twitter), TikTok, Snap, and Discord, Meta is also planning to speak before the Senate on child safety on January 31. This is why the company is focusing on teen engagement. Committee members are anticipated to question company executives about their platforms’ failure to safeguard minors online.
Instagram is still committed to teen engagement and retention, even in the face of constant regulatory pressure.
With its recent teen safety modifications, Meta appears to be trying to curry favor with politicians, though. This week, Meta disclosed that it will begin automatically restricting the content that adolescent Facebook and Instagram accounts can view on the platforms. Adolescent accounts will no longer be able to view offensive information, including posts concerning eating disorders, graphic violence, and self-harm.
