Human rights activist and lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has been released from Uyo Correctional Center after his 30 days incarceration for an alleged contempt of court.
The Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Ekaette Obot, had sentenced Mr Effiong to prison on 27 July, after the lawyer objected to the presence of two armed police operatives in the courtroom during the court proceedings.
The lawyer stepped out of the prison at around 8 a.m. today to a large crowd of supporters and well wishers around the prison premises to welcome him back.
He said his incarceration has strengthened his resolve to fight for truth and justice in Nigeria.
“I consider it an honour for me to be incarcerated for the truth,” Mr Effiong told reporters and supporters.
