The Nigerian Army announced on Friday that three abducted victims have been freed in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State by security personnel.
In a statement on Friday, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, said that a joint team of operatives led by Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 1st Division of the Nigerian Army, had been successful.
He claims that on August 25, 2022, the operatives made a concentrated attempt to free the victims from a group of armed kidnappers in Manini village, located along the Pole Wire-Birnin Gwari route, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, while on an operational, cum inspection tour.
He said that the kidnappers had taken the victims hostage and were fleeing when they were stopped by the GOC’s squad. He continued by saying that the ensuing frenzied firefight subdued the kidnappers and forced them to flee with their hostages, who had been shot, into a nearby forest.
He claimed that two adult males and an old woman who had been saved had been transported to Kaduna and are now undergoing medical care.
