American songwriter and rapper, Ye, who is popularly known by his stage name as Kanye West is no longer a billionaire after popular German sportswear brand, Adidas, cut ties with the rapper, leaving Kanye West out of the Forbes billionaires’ listing.
It will be recalled that on Tuesday, Adidas had announced that their partnership with Kanye West has been broken due to his antisemitic controversies.
American business magazine, Forbes quickly calculated Kanye’s net earnings and after the deduction of the $1.5 billion value from his Adidas deal, it was announced that Kanye West is no longer a billionaire.
Before his partnership with Adidas, Kanye West was partnered with another sportswear brand, Nike for many years, but, broke out in 2013 to join rival Adidas and in 2015, West and Adidas launched their first Yeezy shoe, which contributed to him becoming a billionaire.
“Without Adidas, Ye is worth $400 million. The remainder of Ye’s fortune, Forbes estimates, comes from real estate, cash, his music catalog, and a 5% stake in ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s shapewear firm, Skims. (A source close to Skims told Forbes Ye hasn’t been involved with the brand since its 2019 launch,)” Forbes reported.
With Kanye West and Adidas cutting ties, it means West will now go back to being dependent on his his earnings from his music and real estate.
