Kenneth Okonkwo, an actor and politician, pokes fun at Nigerians who protested N140 per liter at Ojota years ago and are now paying N1000 per litre after standing in line for hours.
Earlier on his he said , “Nigerians who protested against N140 per litre are now paying N1000 under the s iname people that led the protest”!
Nigerians across the country are grappling with severe fuel shortages, leading to long queues at petrol stations nationwide.
The scarcity of gasoline and diesel has disrupted daily life, causing widespread inconvenience and economic hardship. Many residents have reported spending hours waiting in line for fuel, only to be turned away due to insufficient supply. The situation has particularly impacted transportation, as commercial vehicles and public transportation systems have been forced to increase fares.
The fuel crisis has also had a ripple effect on other sectors of the economy, including agriculture, manufacturing, and retail. Businesses reliant on fuel for their operations have faced challenges in maintaining production and meeting customer demands.
While the exact causes of the fuel shortages remain unclear, government officials have attributed the crisis to a combination of factors, including supply chain disruptions and challenges in refining domestic crude oil. Efforts are underway to address the issue, but the situation is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.
Responding to this,a twitter user Said.
“They are also coming for you. No matter what they offer you, please, do not touch it even with a long spoon. Do not behave like Daniel Bwala, Doyin Okupe etc. I remember when you said, “Peter Obi is not the alternative but the only option for a new Nigeria.”Why? Because a good name will always be better than silver or gold. This is the Obidient creed. Above all, your wit, eloquence, vivacity, and vawulence are meant for the stars, not for the pigs. I hope you keep them that way”
Some concerned citizens also aired out their opinions.
“ Blame the opposition party first, civil society secondly and lastly the citizens that allowed the government divide them across ethnic lines ‘.
“I am using this means to call on the organizers of the forth coming #fearlessoctober to restrategize and occupy strategic places just as they occupied OJota in 2012’.
“Sadly the people that lead and sponsored the protest then are the same people in power that’s the irony here.
“If Nigerians don’t protest against the process or institutions that brings in bad leadership in this country, this is just press up we’re in for doom before 2027 and beyond .
According to the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, the economy is still having difficulty because of reduced crude oil production, changes in the foreign currency market, and high monetary policy rates that limit corporate activity.
NNPC claims that the federation saved N400 billion per month when the gasoline subsidy was removed in June 2023. This allowed the corporation to pay N2.032 trillion in taxes and royalties by January 2024.
Nigeria should focus on reforming its various industries to create a more favorable environment for businesses and attract investments from both domestic and foreign investors, thereby sustaining and building upon its recent economic achievements.
We know that NNPC Ltd is working to fix the refineries. We need them to be working again as soon as possible. If everything is ready, the Dangote Refinery, which can process a huge 650,000 barrels of oil per day, should be able to help end the fuel shortage.
