King Charles III will really be more careful this time around as he recently survived a faux assassination in Australia.
The faux assassination took place during his visit to Australia back in 1994. The chaos happened when he was about to begin a speech. In the footage, two different screams can are heard even as people kept scrambling in front of him.
When it all happened, nobody knew that the shots a protester fired in Sydney were blanks. The Royal Family’s security detail managed to restrain the man who made this attempt, whose name is David Kang. At the time, the shooter was 23 years old and he was a university student in Australia. His reasons to shoot at the prince were directly linked to the treatment of hundreds of Cambodian asylum seekers being held in detention camps in Australia.
What surprises us the most about this footage is the way in which Prince Charles doesn’t even react to what happened. In his face, you can see an inquisitive person rather than a frightened individual who fears for his life. We are still uncertain if the then prince was brave or he simply didn’t fully understand what was happening at the time. Most reactions to Prince Charles’ careless attitude are followed by complete awe, he truly seems unfazed by what happened.
Kang wasn’t believed to have actually tried to kill the prince but he was still charged with threatening unlawful violence and he did 500 hours of community service. This was the action of a desperate man who had been previously ignored by many in his attempt to raise awareness to his cause. Even Prince Charles received a letter from Kang before this event.
Things are much different now, King Charles III won’t put himself in harm’s way like the prince did during that visit to Australia. It is highly unlikely that he will make trips like that to countries where his life could be in any type of danger. Regardless of what happens, we now know King Charles III doesn’t even flinch when he hears gunshots.
