As the 2023 general elections in Nigeria inches nearer, some political parties, candidates and their supporters have been found in a place of anxiety, curiosity and even criticism.
In lieu of this, a political party in Nigeria, Labour Party (LP) has sent its reply to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, for his comments against the Yorubas and the Igbos.
The vice presidential candidate of the party, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, had taken to his official Twitter page to blast PDP’s flagbearer, Atiku, over his comment, noting that his (Atiku’s) comment was capable of causing jeopardy to the unity of Nigeria, while describing Atiku as an ethnic bigot who before now cannot unity his party.
In his tweet, Baba-Ahmed wrote: “Atiku is an ethnic bigot. A big one at that. Someone that cannot unify his party want to unify Nigeria? Liar!!!”
This is coming after Atiku had on Saturday advised the Northeners to vote for him as the president in the 2023 general elections.
In a viral video on Saturday, Atiku was heard saying: “What the average Northerner needs is somebody who’s from the North and also understands that part of the country and has been able to build bridges across the country.
“This is what the Northerner needs. It doesn’t need a Yoruba or Igbo candidate. I stand before you as a pan-Nigerian of northern origin.”
Since Saturday, Atiku’s comments on Northern Presidency has sparked fire amongst many Nigerians and even among fellow presidential candidates, as they have continued to take Atiku’s comments in unacceptable ways.
