The talks between Manchester United and Barcelona over the transfer of 25-year-old midfielder, Frenkie de Jong have reportedly reached an advanced stage, according to Barcelona.
The Catalan giants are believed to be open to selling the 25-year-old midfielder for the right price due to their financial plight, and United are one of the top bidders to secure the player’s signature.
Manchester City are also believed to be interested in De Jong, with one report claiming that a proposed swap deal involving Bernardo Silva could be negotiated between the two clubs.
However, Sport, via the Manchester Evening News, claims that the Red Devils and Barca have reached ‘final negotiations’ with discussions still taking place over the transfer fee.
United would prefer to pay €70m (£59.9m) plus €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons for De Jong, while Barcelona are hoping to agree a fee closer to €100m (£86.2m), although the report adds that they could be persuaded to lower their valuation to €80m (£68.5m) if they were to receive this figure up front.
De Jong, who has been with Barcelona since joining from Ajax in 2019, recently admitted that he is playing for “the biggest club in the world” and insists that there is “no news” regarding his future at Camp Nou.
