Ina Kenoyer, a 48-year-old Minot, North Dakota woman, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to fatally poisoning her longtime boyfriend, Steven Riley, with antifreeze. The sentence was set for October 16, 2023, following Riley’s death on September 4. During the proceedings, Keenoyer showed no emotion as Riley’s family members gave victim impact statements.
The report states she detailed her feelings, saying, “My opinion of you, in light of what you have done to my brother, is, ironically, an accurate reflection of the home you live in: nasty, filthy, disgusting, embarrassing, gross, full of feces and pure trash.”Court documents indicate that both Riley and Kenoyer believed he was set to receive a $30 million inheritance shortly before his death. Kenoyer allegedly poisoned Riley’s drinks, thinking she would inherit the money under North Dakota’s common law marriage laws if he passed away. However, investigators have determined that the inheritance was likely nonexistent.
A coroner’s report confirmed that Riley died of ethylene glycol poisoning, a chemical commonly found in antifreeze. Earlier this year, Kenoyer pleaded guilty to murder and agreed to a 50-year sentence, with 25 years suspended, for the remainder of the sentence. If released, she will be on supervised probation for 10 years and must pay restitution to Riley’s family.
