The National Assembly’s emergency meeting set for Thursday aims to correct an error in the 2024 budget.
Sources close to the National Assembly bureaucracy disclosed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in collaboration with House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, called the meeting to address the budget discrepancy.
It was discovered that a slight difference exists between the budgets passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives. During Thursday’s meeting, the Senate will harmonize its version to align with the House’s, followed by a joint passage of the corrected budget by both chambers.
However, many National Assembly members are reportedly unhappy about being recalled just one week into their recess. Sources indicate that the lawmakers believe the National Assembly leadership could have waited until the previously scheduled September resumption, as many members have traveled to their constituencies or abroad.
Additionally, while the main agenda is the budget correction, our team has gathered that the planned nationwide protest may also be discussed during the plenary.
