More than 400 footballers have been waiting for more than a year for payment from a FIFA-administered fund meant to help players who owe money to their clubs.
A total of $4 million was meant to be paid to 420 players by September 30. However, it has been reported that these payments have not been created to players leaving their pockets yet.
However, payments to players who owe their bills appear to still not have been made.Emails and letters from world players’ association FIFPro to FIFA seeking a refund of the payment are said to have gone unanswered.
Most of the affected players are believed to be in Portugal, Greece and Romania. Although the 420 also includes players from all over the world. The amount is part of the FIFA Fund for Footballers (FFP), established in 2020 through an agreement between the governing body and FIFPro.
FIFA committed $16 million when the fund was launched with the aim of providing “financial support to players who have not been paid and are unable to properly collect the salaries agreed by their clubs,” as reported by Inside FIFA.The report follows a complaint filed last week by associations representing European footballers and clubs, including FIFPro, which accused FIFA of abusing its position over changes to the international calendar and the expansion of competitions.
