The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asserts that its Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is a symbol of national unity, cohesion, and tolerance who is well-liked and popular throughout the entire nation.
This is according to a statement released in Abuja on Sunday by Mr. Debo Ologunagba, national publicity secretary for the PDP.
The party was responding to claimed remarks made by Abubakar over his call for a northern president in 2023 during the weekend’s Stakeholders’ Meeting in Kaduna State.

The party denounced the attempt to intentionally twist, doctor, misread, and misconstrue Abubakar’s remarks at the gathering. “For clarity and avoidance of doubt Abubakar remains a Pan-Nigerian leader.
”He has never and will never set any part of our country against the other as being mischievously hyped.
“To set the record straight, the PDP Presidential Candidate, in responding within the context of the question put to him at the event noted that he had built bridges across the country and that what Nigerians including an average northerner need was a Pan-Nigerian leader, and not an ethnic champion,” the party said. The party urges all Nigerians to remain focused on the PDP’s objective to rescue, reunite, rebuild, and restore our nation on the path of peace, national cohesion, and economic success, which the Atiku/Okowa ticket symbolizes.”
According to NAN, the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2023 Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has accused Abubakar of merely paying national unity lip service.
Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the council’s Director of Media and Publicity, declared on Sunday in Abuja that Abubakar had turned to ethnic “jingo” in the face of his impending electoral defeat in 2023.
Abubakar’s recent declaration that northern Nigerians did not need a Yoruba or Igbo president was the worst example of ethnocentric opportunism ever spoken by a former vice-president, according to him.
