Super Eagles of Nigeria won in thier Match Day 1 fixture of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja with Super Eagles scoring two goals to one against Leonoe Stars.
The Super Eagles returned to the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja for the first time, since the draw against Ghana in March, which saw the three-time African champions miss out on the 2022 World Cup.
Jonathan Morsay goal who was an opener for the visitors, was cancelled with goals from Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen.
It is the first win for new Eagles’ boss, Jose Peseiro, who lost in two friendly matches for Mexico and Ecuador.
However, the game was played without fans, following FIFA’s ban for crowd trouble.
The Eagles will play Sao Tome and Principe in their next fixtures.
