Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress’s presidential candidate, has been requested to quit by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party said that Mr. Tinubu and the APC had wronged Nigerians too severely for them to want to remain in the race in a statement released by Debo Ologunagba, the party’s national publicity secretary.
The APC was accused of employing “street craftsmen, touts, and fraudsters and unlawfully disguising them in bishop’s vestments to fabricate an endorsement for its faltering presidential campaign,” according to the party.
It characterized Mr. Tinubu’s action as a sign of desperation in light of the APC’s nationwide collapse of its leadership, membership, and supporter structure.
The PDP reacted to images and recordings of certain attendees at Kashim Shettima’s introduction as the APC vice presidential candidate on Wednesday who were dressed in cassocks.
Many Nigerians had expressed displeasure at their presence. They were branded as “false” by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
The PDP said that Mr. Tinubu’s actions have rendered him morally ineligible to run for president, notwithstanding his ongoing legal battles over claims of perjury, fake certificates, and extortion.
“More sickening is the outcry by the hirelings that they were defrauded by agents of the APC Presidential candidate, who paid them sums ranging from N30,000 to N40,000 as against the N100,000 they were earlier promised…Nigerians now know the individual who has been the planner and executor of the lies, false promises and corruption of the APC that have brought disunity, excruciating hardship, mass killings and political instability in the country in the last seven years,” the party said.
The PDP also made fun of the ruling party for depreciating the naira, which now trades at N665 to the dollar, as well as for the nation’s mounting debt.According to the party, tough economic policies, high fuel prices, unemployment, the cost of food and other essentials, as well as other charges, have forced millions of enterprises to close.
Loss for Tinubu at home
In addition, the PDP made fun of Mr. Tinubu for losing the recently completed governorship race in Osun State.
