Prof. Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has given 1,000 unemployed youngsters from various wards in Biu, the state’s most populated local government area, a grant of N100 million as empowerment.
The gift, according to a statement released by the governor’s spokesman, Mallam Isa Gusau, is intended to be used as startup capital for micro and small businesses and to boost the Biu economy.
Gusau revealed that Zulum had come in Biu last Tuesday and was still visiting the local government area yesterday. He claimed that his boss had made the distribution during a flag-off ceremony at Kadafur Cinema in Biu town last Wednesday.

He said that during the current tour, Zulum established a higher Islamic school with 1,200 pupils and a zonal monitoring and evaluation department, as well as a massive Government Secondary School in Buratai Village, Biu.
The N100 million gift to 1,000 young people without jobs was Zulum’s fourth activity in Biu.
The governor argued that poverty was a major factor in the rise of Boko Haram and that the state government must continue its efforts to fight it.
He stated that his administration was making all effort humanly feasible to help the state’s most vulnerable residents.
The governor urged the 1,000 recipients of the N100 million gift to use the funds wisely to improve their standard of living.
Saina Buba, the state’s commissioner for youth empowerment, sports development, and poverty alleviation, had earlier claimed that the 1,000 recipients had been chosen from wards around the Biu LGA.
